SUMMARY: Lifestyle Medicine, with plant-based nutrition as a centerpiece, has always been the right thing to do.  But what are the clinical and economic tools that make it viable for health care providers who want to make a full time living practicing Lifestyle Medicine?  Dr. Wayne Dysinger, past president of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, has spent the last 7 years practicing and proving out these models.  During this engaging workshop, Dr. Dysinger will be sharing a variety of clinical tools that assist health care providers in assessing and treating patients using the Lifestyle Medicine approach.  He will also discuss specifics of value based care economic models that are currently available, and that provide an incredibly bright future for any health care providing interested in dedicating their life to Lifestyle Medicine, and getting excellent reimbursement while doing so.

Wayne Dysinger, MD

Wayne is an Inland Empire native, having been born and raised in Loma Linda and Yucaipa. He completed medical school at Loma Linda University, followed by a Family Medicine Residency at Florida Hospital, and a Preventive Medicine Residency back at Loma Linda. He has worked in Guam, Atlanta and New Hampshire prior to returning to Loma Linda University as Chair of the Preventive Medicine Department in 2003. Wayne has an international reputation as a leader in the field of Lifestyle Medicine, having served as President of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and as an international consultant in the area. He is also the Medical Director of the Lifestyle Medicine Institute, and a Professor at Loma Linda University. He is passionate about treating what is really causing health problems, not just putting Band-Aids on superficial issues.

SUMMARY: This workshop is designed to explore the current research specific to the optimization of health and physiology for women throughout their lifespan.  Topics covered will include reproductive health, hormonal balance, maintenance of bone density, the prevention, suspension, and reversal of chronic diseases, exercise and athletic performance and key strategies utilizing food and lifestyle.

Michelle Tollefson, MD

Dr. Michelle Tollefson is honored to serve as ACLM’s Secretary and a member of the Board of Directors. She is an ACLM Fellow and board certified in lifestyle medicine as well as obstetrics and gynecology. She is on ACLM’s Education and Membership Committees and was the founding co-chair of both the Women’s Health Member Interest Group as well as the Pre-Professional Lifestyle Medicine Education Member Interest Group. For over a decade she has been active in the lifestyle medicine and wellness coaching movements, as one of the first physicians certified in Wellness Coaching. Dr. Tollefson was previously the Medical Director of Women’s Wellness Education for a Colorado health system and in full time clinical practice and now volunteers at a non-profit clinic. As an associate professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver, she developed and oversees the bachelor’s level Lifestyle Medicine major and minor which is the first in the country. Dr. Tollefson has published multiple articles in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine (AJLM), served as the guest editor of AJLM’s conference edition, and is currently the editor-in-chief of the Women’s Health Lifestyle Medicine book that will be released as part of Dr. Rippe’s Lifestyle Medicine book series. She is a breast cancer survivor, inspirational speaker, and advocates for the power of lifestyle medicine in being a component of breast cancer treatment plans. She is on the ACLM Speaker’s Bureau, lectures nationwide on a variety of topics related to lifestyle medicine and women’s health and is passionate about optimizing women’s health across the lifespan.

 

Pain Free: Food and Regenerative Strategies to Eliminate Pain and Restore Function

SUMMARY: This unique workshop will explore the relationship between the foods we eat and the pain we experience using research driven solutions to overcome painful conditions using food as medicine. Drawing on more than 35 years of combined experience in musculoskeletal and sports medicine, This session will also introduce the concept of body alignment in pain reduction and discuss regenerative treatment options to overcome degenerative musculoskeletal conditions.

Stephan Esser, MD

Stephan Esser, MD is a physician, author and motivational speaker specializing in sports medicine and lifestyle modification. He is dedicated to empowering individuals to achieve their best health and maximize fitness, fun and function.

Dr. Esser completed a Bachelor of Science at Palm Beach Atlantic University, Medical School at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School/Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, and a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. He currently works as a Sports & Spine Physician with Southeast Orthopedic Specialists in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. where he offers detailed clinical evaluations, lifestyle counseling, acupuncture and regenerative PRP and Stem cell injections.

Prior to his career in medicine he was a competitive tennis player, achieving a ranking of #1 in the US in Men’s Open Doubles (2002).

Evan Queler, MD

Dr. Queler is a board-certified Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Physician and fellowship trained in non-surgical interventional spine pain management & regenerative procedures.  He is one of the first medical professionals to be board certified in Lifestyle Medicine, which is the use of evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic approaches, such as a predominantly whole food, plant-based diet, regular physical activity, adequate sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and other non-drug modalities, to prevent, treat, and, oftentimes, reverse lifestyle-related, chronic disease.

He is licensed in medical acupuncture, is a certified Power Yoga instructor and a facilitator of CHIP (complete health improvement program).  He has been practicing Yoga since 1995 and completed the Culinary Rx course.  He believes a whole food plant-based lifestyle is the portal to actualizing the best version of one’s most authentic self.  Dr. Queler aspires to empower patients, families and the community at large to make evidence based behavioral lifestyle choices in order to cultivate wellness, health and vitality.

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Queler enjoys spending time with his wife, Sonia, four-year-old son and six-year-old daughter, where they reside in New Jersey. He may also be found enjoying back-to-back Mumford & Sons concerts when they are in town.

Scott Stoll, MD, FABPMR

Dr. Stoll is board certified physician specializing in sports and regenerative musculoskeletal medicine and is a recognized as an international leader in lifestyle medicine and whole food plant-based nutrition.  He is the co-founder of the Plantrician Project, the International Plant Based Nutrition Healthcare Conference, the International Journal of Disease Reversal and Prevention, and the Regenerative Health Institute, a unique collaborative project with the Rodale Institute that integrates a regenerative vision of human health, agriculture, and the environment.  He was a member of the 1994 Olympic Bobsled team and served as a team physician for the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Team and Lehigh University.   Dr. Stoll served as a member of the Whole Foods scientific and medical advisory board and consults with healthcare organizations globally to integrate lifestyle medicine solutions. 

Every year Dr. Stoll hosts the very popular one-week total health immersions in Florida and helps attendees recover lost health, overcome addictions, and restore emotional balance.  In addition to authoring numerous books, scientific articles and speaking internationally, Dr. Stoll has appeared on a wide variety of national shows including the Dr. Oz show, hosting a 2018 PBS special Food As Medicine, and numerous documentaries including The Game Changers, Eating You Alive, Disease Reversal Hope, Plantwise and upcoming TV series based health immersions.
